Next
Though The Hobbit is a good novel, I lost my book for a few days. I ended my last post right after the eagles saved Gandalf and the group from the golbins. After their escape from the goblins they realize the only way to the Lonely Mountain is through Mirkwood. On their way there Gandalf leads them to the house of Beorn. Beorn is a half-man, half-bear creature who has a house Mirkwood. He tells his visiters that the Wargs and goblins have assembled in order to find the people who killed their leader. He tells them the only safe way through Mirkwood is the elf path. Beorn provides the group with food and supplies. Gandalf tells the group that he has to leave and then disappears. While traveling they come to a stream that Beorn had warned them not to touch. They cross it using a boat, but Bombur, falls in and is put to sleep and the group is forced to carry him. One night they all see lights flickering, leave the path, and get separated. Bilbo decides to go to sleep against a tree and wakes up he is tied up with thread and sees a huge spider coming towards him. He pulls his sword, cuts the thread, and slays the spider. He later gives the swords the nickname “Sting”. He then hears the dwarves yelling and finds them also tied up by other spiders. Bilbo now puts on the ring and starts to throw rocks at the spiders, but since he is wearing the ring they cannot find him. After distracting the spiders he returns to the dwarves and cuts them down. They are all weak from the poison from the spiders and they run to a clearing in the woods and suddenly the spiders retreat. They learn that where they retreated to is used by the elves. While planning their next move they all realize that Thorin is missing... Each chapter gets better than the last and there are twists and turns on almost every page.

Speak About the End
In class we have recently finished reading the novel and movie Speak. We were required to create a digital dialogue or personalized podcast, about advice we would give Melinda Sordino, who is the main character in the novel. Speak is a story about Melinda, the main character, who had been raped at a party and called the cops. Nobody knows her side of the story, so everybody hates Melinda, she has trouble in school and becomes depressed. The story shows how she is able to start to overcome these obstacles. This was a good book, that has alot happening, and I would highly recommend it.
I'm still leisurely reading my choice read book, The Hobbit. which is becoming more interesting each chapter. Bilbo finds his friends and then explains how he made his way out of the mountain. However, he doesn't mention his the magic ring.Gandalf gets everyone moving again since only the sunlight is keeping the goblins from coming after them. The group is a bit north of where they had planned to be, and they have difficult country to cross. Evening comes as they pass through the trees. Suddenly, they hear the howling of wolves and barely have time to scurry up into the trees before the wolves descend upon them. The beasts are actually wolflike creatures called Wargs. The Wargs are allies of the goblins, and they quickly notify the goblins of the situation. The goblins begin to arrive and, laughing at the company’s predicament, light fires under the trees in which Gandalf, the dwarves, and Bilbo are hiding.Gandalf prepares to attack the goblins, hoping to kill as many as he can before they kill him. Luckily for the company, the Lord of the Eagles has seen the commotion from his roost high in the mountains. With a number of other eagles, he swoops down, picks up the marooned travelers, and flies them to safety. The eagles are friends of Gandalf’s and enemies of the goblins. They are happy to provide food and rest for the weary travelers, who then continue on their journey.

THE HOBBIT...AGAIN!
Like I've said in past blog posts this book is getting better the further I go. I didn't get to read as much of this book as I wanted to in the past two weeks, because I lost my book and had more work than normal. Right now these adventurers have traveled far into the mountains and have become lost. Luckily, one of the dwarves finds a warm, comfortable caves to rest in. But during the night Bilbo wakes up to see goblins snatching the horses, supplies, and dwarves from a secret passage in the back of the cave. These goblins take the dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf into the heart of the mountain, where the king goblins lives. The king says that they are now his prisoners and will be dealt with later, but later never comes. They escape from the goblins killing many of them, but Bilbo is knocked out and wakes up in a dark corner, where he finds "a ring". He slowly makes his way through pitch black tunnels to find himself in front of a subterranean lake. Bilbo feels a presence in this area, which ends up being the creature Golum. Bilbo is frightened and draws his knife. When he does this his blade lights up and he learns that his dagger is actually another magical blade made by the elves, called "Sting". Golum was once a land dweller, but had been trapped in the cave for as long as he could remember. Bilbo challenges Golum to play a riddle game; if Bilbo wins Golum must show him to the exit and if Golum wins Bilbo will become a meal. As the game progresses, it becomes known that Golum is insane and has become obsessed with a ring that he keeps on his island in the middle of the lake, the ring that Bilbo had found and kept earlier. Bilbo ends up winning and is shown out by the exstatic Golum, but Golum figures out that Bilbo has the ring and leaves him immediately. Bilbo learns that "the ring" is a magical ring once worn by an evil king that turns the one wearing it invisible. To escape from the mountain Bilbo must cross a room of goblins, he puts on the ring and disappears, but is smelt by the goblins. He runs for the door, but is stuck under it, and narrowly escapes the mountain not knowing where his friends are or if they are alive...We have just finished the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Lets Speak About The Hobbit
...After reading further into The Hobbit, its getting more interesting and exciting. Bilbo decides to go investigate the trolls and see if they can steal anything, but Bilbo is caught, threatened, and interrogated. The dwarves hear this a run to Bilbo's aid, but are caught and put into sacks. While the trolls are trying to decide how to cook the dwarves and hobbit, a voice that sounds like the trolls' own voices, is always opposing the trolls ideas. This enrages the trolls to the point of fighting with each other. These trolls unknowingly argue until dawn and turn to stone immediately in the morning sunlight. The mysterious voice turns out to be Gandalf, throwing his own voice; this saves the dwarves and Bilbo. After the dwarves got out of the sacks they found the key, to the trolls' cave. After searching nearby they find the trolls' cave and inside find food, a barrel of ale, and amazing weapons. The next morning Gandalf says that they are going to the city of Rivendell,
a city of elves beyond the Edge of the Wild.
As the approach Rivendell, their group is greeted
by elves and invited to eat and rest in the city. In the city they meet Elrond, the great chief elf, who can interpret the ancient runes on their newly found weapons. He tells them that the swords are renowned
goblin-killers from the ancient wars between the goblins and elves. He also reads Thorin's map and tells them that to find the secret entrance on the Lonely Mountain they must wait until the right moon phase. The next day they leave Rivendell and prepare for whats ahead...
In our class we have started a new book called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Its a good book so far, but we are still only in the first half of the book.

TH3 H0BBIT
In class we have started to read a book of our choice. I feel that it is a good thing to start each class with time for a free read because it give people who normally don't read, time to read and it eases everyone into the class for that day. I have chosen The Hobbit, mainly because it was one of the only books in my house that sounded half interesting and my brother had told me it was a great book. In The Hobbit , Gandalf has come back to reunite and talk with his old friend Bilbo Baggins. Gandalf asks Bilbo to go on an adventure and to think about it . The next day twelve dwarves and Gandalf show up at Bilbo's hole, Gandalf reveals that they will be going to Lonely Mountain to slay Smaug the dragon and to reclaim the dwarves treasure. Bilbo is hesitant at first, but decides to leave and travel with the dwarves. After a couple of days, Bilbo is starting to question his decision to go on the trip. One night the dwarves and Bilbo stop to camp in the rain, with little food. That night they stumble upon three trolls, with fire and food...

NUMB3R ON3
Thinking as far back as I can, the first experience with a book is Corduroy by Don Freeman. Even though I like some books, I feel that my first experiences with reading were not very good. It began with the starter books that have about five words on a page and a lot of pictures. I think the reason I didn't have good experiences is because it seemed like I was being forced to read these books when I was little. Honestly the first book I remember liking is Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater. I liked this book because it was a good story and I was allowed to choose it myself. My reading journey has been quite hectic. At first I didn't really like reading, because it took so long, but as I found better books, it began to move faster. It's strange, at times I hate reading, but other times it's great. Right now I hate reading some assigned books, but reading is alright when I am able to choose the book myself. As a reader I am comfortable, I just hope to be able to read faster and stop procrastinating.
