THE HOBBIT...AGAIN!

Like I've said in past blog posts this book is getting better the further I go. I didn't get to read as much of this book as I wanted to in the past two weeks, because I lost my book and had more work than normal. Right now these adventurers have traveled far into the mountains and have become lost. Luckily, one of the dwarves finds a warm, comfortable caves to rest in. But during the night Bilbo wakes up to see goblins snatching the horses, supplies, and dwarves from a secret passage in the back of the cave. These goblins take the dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf into the heart of the mountain, where the king goblins lives. The king says that they are now his prisoners and will be dealt with later, but later never comes. They escape from the goblins killing many of them, but Bilbo is knocked out and wakes up in a dark corner, where he finds "a ring". He slowly makes his way through pitch black tunnels to find himself in front of a subterranean lake. Bilbo feels a presence in this area, which ends up being the creature Golum. Bilbo is frightened and draws his knife. When he does this his blade lights up and he learns that his dagger is actually another magical blade made by the elves, called "Sting". Golum was once a land dweller, but had been trapped in the cave for as long as he could remember. Bilbo challenges Golum to play a riddle game; if Bilbo wins Golum must show him to the exit and if Golum wins Bilbo will become a meal. As the game progresses, it becomes known that Golum is insane and has become obsessed with a ring that he keeps on his island in the middle of the lake, the ring that Bilbo had found and kept earlier. Bilbo ends up winning and is shown out by the exstatic Golum, but Golum figures out that Bilbo has the ring and leaves him immediately. Bilbo learns that "the ring" is a magical ring once worn by an evil king that turns the one wearing it invisible. To escape from the mountain Bilbo must cross a room of goblins, he puts on the ring and disappears, but is smelt by the goblins. He runs for the door, but is stuck under it, and narrowly escapes the mountain not knowing where his friends are or if they are alive...
We have just finished the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a story about Melinda, the main character,  who had been raped at a party and called the cops. Nobody knows her side of the story, so everybody hates Melinda, she has trouble in school and becomes depressed. The story shows how she is able to start to overcome these obstacles. This was a good book, that has alot happening, and I would highly recommend it.

  1. Chris- You do a great job summarizing The Hobbit, but you don't really give any opinion on it. In addition, the tiny piece about Speak seems out of place as does the picture. Try to really focus on one thing & make sure to include your thoughts about the Hobbit.
